An idea born on the streets of Hong Kong in 2010, The Flying Winemaker originated as a talisman for those determined to change the way wine is perceived, drunk and shared in Asia. Led by founder Eddie McDougall, the company continues to instigate a vino revolution in a region where wine still has a very white tablecloth perception.
Through a combination of guerilla Hong Kong wine tasting events, innovative marketing & media promotion, wine education classes (with a twist!) and an active wine members club, The Flying Winemaker leads the charge as Asia’s most exciting emerging name in wine.
A mixture of avid winemakers, experienced marketers and former luxury hospitality professionals make up the current team at The Flying Winemaker. The original citywide focus has grown to a regional grasp, with events in Singapore, Taiwan, Sydney & Hong Kong.
2014 saw the launch of our Television Series on Discovery Channel Network’s TLC, bringing The Flying Winemaker name into over 160 Million households in Asia & Australia. This past year has also seen new vintages of our own line of wines, Eddie McDougall Fine Wines of Australia, hit the market with more varietals then before with Sangiovese, Shiraz, Pinot Gris, Rosé & Prosecco all released.
The Flying Winemaker Show Over 160+ Million viewers have begun Wine Exploring. Have you?

From markets and food stalls to restaurants and even in people’s homes, Eddie will reveal combinations that can be replicated in kitchens around the globe.
Follow him as he steps out of his world-famous Hong Kong wine gallery, ‘The Flying Winemaker’, into China, India, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Bali and Australia in search of unique wine production and top-class varieties that the world has yet to discover.
Meet the team!
It was love at first sip for award-winning winemaker Eddie McDougall, when he first tried an expensive Alsatian Pinot Blanc as a 19-year-old student waiting tables in Australia. He then went on to get a Postgraduate Diploma of Wine Technology and Viticulture from the University of Melbourne.
Passionate about bringing good wine to Asia, Eddie strongly believes in the power of wine as the social glue in bringing people together. Along with his innovative and critically-acclaimed wines, Eddie McDougall is changing the wine landscape and breaking down the barriers for Asian wine drinkers. When not making wine, Eddie is also a wine judge, columnist, TV personality, and founder of one of Asia's most dynamic wine companies, The Flying Winemaker, all in one tall order. To do all this before the age of 35, Eddie can be summed up in three words: energetic, passionate, and stubborn.
Outside of the wine world, Eddie can be found with his family, coaching rugby and cricket, or in the kitchen cooking for friends. While a man of many talents, he is terrible at anything that requires standing on a board (e.g. skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding) or being in the cold.

Nick KoE-Commerce Manager
Initially a complete wine rookie interning while only knowing the colour difference between red and white wines, Nick now heads the newly created E-Commerce Department, taking lead of TFW’s brand spanking new website.
The resident veteran, Nick has been under The Flying Winemaker’s wing for three years, previously as part of the Ops Team. He’s done brief stints down under at Deep Woods Estate in Margaret River, Australia to get his hands dirty during harvest.
Having attended the University of Nottingham in the UK, Nick’s number one wish is for Nando’s to make it to Hong Kong but makes do with supermarket-bought sauce. Along with Kyle and Jinnie, Nick is a professional at playing wine box tetris to maximize space in the office. While good at many things, his kryptonites are backflips and writing tasting notes (though luckily neither are things required of him on a regular basis).
Favourite wines: an oaky Chardonnay and Tawny Port are the ways to his heart.
Elisa ChanEvents Manager
Born and raised in France, Elisa is half-Chinese and half-Spanish (indeed, The Flying Winemaker HQ resembles a Benetton ad). Multi-cultural, dynamic, and uber-organised, she is an events superstar and can be found running around making sure everything is running smoothly at TFW events.
With a double diploma from business school in Reims and Mexico, as well as a Master’s in Marketing Management from ESSEC in Paris, Elisa has a background in luxury and fashion, having worked at L’Oreal, Lacoste, and other fashion houses. Finding her way to wine through a fine wine & spirits auction house in Hong Kong, she is an integral part of the TFW team.
She can be found cooking (and drinking simultaneously because she's boss at multitasking), at practice with her all-female dragon boat team “Yes She Can”, and spending time with her son. Elisa’s next big project is to go on a horse-back riding trip in Mongolia with him!
Favourite wine: the Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée 1996, and is also crazy about a chilled glass bottle of Pouilly Fumé paired with fish tartar.
Kyle OosterbergSenior Wine Educator & Cellar Manager
Senior Wine Educator & Cellar Manager
Kyle is the Senior Wine Educator & Cellar Manager, which means he’s the resident Wine Dude (when Eddie the boss isn’t around). A combination of outgoing and quirky, learning about wine with Kyle is the best combination of fun and educational. With a genuine love of teaching and sharing his wine passion with people, wine education at The Flying Winemaker is the furthest thing from textbook learning.
Discovering the wonders of wine on a holiday job at the tender age of 16, Kyle began his journey at the prestigious and award-winning Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Experienced in all aspects of wine, Kyle has been involved in wine production, working vines during harvest, to marketing and teaching, representing wineries at trade events and educating visitors in the tasting room.
When away from work, Kyle moonlights as Batman after a few beers, but can also be found near any large body of water as his other passions are surfing and the ocean. His weakness: working with computers and any technology past 1990.
Favourite wines: Chenin Blanc for white wines and Pinot Noir for red
Jinnie LockBrand Ambassador & Wine Sales Executive
Brand Ambassador & Wine Sales Executive
Hailing from New Zealand, Jinnie is the Wine Chick of TFW with her extensive knowledge of wine and easygoing personality. She has a Viticulture & Oenology degree from Lincoln University and experience working in wine production from harvests to hosting tasting rooms and events in Oregon, USA, and New Zealand.
Fitting right in with her adventurous spirit, Jinnie is often exploring new places and immersing herself in new cultures through the local cuisine. Like a true kiwi, she also enjoys being outdoors: camping, hiking, or fishing (though she gets easily seasick so junk season in Hong Kong is a bit of a hit and miss). On Friday nights, she can be found happily trying out different craft beers.
Favourite wine: an equal opportunity wine lover, Jinnie enjoys all different types of wines with their own personalities and unique qualities, but if hard-pressed, her love for delicious Pinot Noirs win out, stemming from her time in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
Memorable wine moment: a 2007 Villa Maria Rutherford Vineyard Pinot Noir paired with duck confit: a match made in heaven!

Helen ShiWine Team
Helen is TFW’s resident polyglot, impressively speaking Mandarin, Japanese, and English. On loan from university, she is on a year’s break studying a Master’s of Wine Business at the University of Adelaide.
Stumbling upon her love of wine in the Hokkaido wineries in Japan during her two years of study at Hokuriku University, Helen decided to go to Australia to embark on her wine journey. She has volunteered as a steward at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show and as a cellar door assistant at Sidewood Winery.
When pried away from wine, Helen enjoys traveling, hot yoga on the weekends, and cooking foreign cuisines at home. An adventurous female at heart, she has also given scuba diving and skydiving a go, and plans on pursuing those interests further.
Favourite wines: Champagne, German Rieslings, and Shiraz from South Australia, with her favourite pairing being a glass of chilled Chardonnay and fresh oysters
